Comprehensive Guide to Rubber and Foam Materials

Atlantic Rubber & Plastic offers diverse, high-quality materials for various industrial applications. Here's a detailed guide on the materials we supply and use, each selected for its unique properties and suitability for specific uses.

  1. EPDM Sponge

EPDM Sponge is a closed-cell foam rubber known for its non-absorbent properties. This material is available in thicknesses ranging from 1mm to 50mm and even thicker with specialist lamination. It excels in environments requiring resistance to ageing, weather, ozone, and ultraviolet light. The wide operating temperature range of -40 °C to +80 °C (up to +100 °C intermittently) makes it suitable for various sectors, including electrical engineering and construction. EPDM Sponge can also come with a self-adhesive backing for easy application and is available in a white variant.

  1. Neoprene Sponge

Neoprene Sponge, also a closed-cell foam rubber, is available in thicknesses from 1mm to 40mm. It is resistant to ageing, weather, ozone, and lubricating oils. Optional self-adhesive coatings enhance application ease. This material is used primarily in the automotive, electrical engineering, and construction industries, crafted into forms like gaskets, pads, strips, sheets, and coils.

  1. Polyethylene Foam

Polyethylene Foam is a lightweight, durable foam in various densities, colours, and grades. It offers excellent thermal properties, making it ideal for construction uses. Its closed-cell structure provides moisture and chemical resistance, making it a cost-effective alternative to cellular rubber for producing self-adhesive foam tapes used in cushioning, sealing, and vibration damping. Due to its durability and water resistance, Polyethylene Foam is widely utilized in packaging and for manufacturing gaskets, washers, and pads in electronics and appliance production.

  1. Polyurethane Foam

Polyurethane Foam is known for its lightweight, open-cell structure that is easily compressible, making it excellent for cushioning and gap-filling applications. It also serves as an effective acoustic insulator, with flame retardant grades available, suited for acoustic panels, enclosures, and duct lining.

  1. PVC Foam

We offer PVC Foam in two densities: 110 Kg and 210 Kg per cubic meter, with the latter providing a more rigid feel. This material offers excellent UV resistance and is effective in sealing against air and dust. While predominantly open-cell, PVC foam becomes watertight under compression and is available in 'quick recovery' or 'slow recovery' forms. It is commonly used in glazing, insulation, cushioning, and partitioning applications.

  1. Nitrile PVC

PVC Nitrile foam is an excellent insulation material with a closed-cell structure, sealing effectively against air, dust, water, and moisture. It meets BS476 Class O Flame Retardant standards and boasts superb thermal characteristics. This foam is extensively used in electrical, automotive, and air conditioning unit manufacturing and is available as rolls, sheets, cut pads, and self-adhesive coils and tapes.

  1. Solid Rubber

Solid rubber is a durable material available in sheets, strips, gaskets, rolls, blocks, and coils. It can be equipped with a self-adhesive coating to facilitate production or assembly. Depending on your needs, we offer several grades, such as Neoprene, EPDM, Natural/Commercial, SBR, Nitrile, and Silicone Rubber.

Each material we supply at Atlantic Rubber & Plastic is chosen for its ability to meet the demanding requirements of modern applications across various industries.
